Anwar ‘Sastro’ Ma’ruf is a leading figure of the Indonesian movement in post-authoritarian Indonesia and looks back to almost twenty years of activism in alliances of independent labour unions. As the National Chairperson of the Indonesian Working People’s Association and the Indonesian People’s Movement Confederation he is well known for his ability to interlink movements of different sectors such as the peasant, labour, women’s, fisherfolk and indigenous people’s movements.
