Dr. Ghada Al-Jadba (42) – UNRWA Doctor: Dr. Ghada Al-Jadba works as a doctor for UNRWA. Recently promoted as an Area Health Officer, she manages six health centres in two governorates in the Gaza Strip. She holds a BSc in Medicine (Al Fateh University in Tripoli – Libya) and an MA in Public Health (Al-Quds University). She has a particular interest in maternal and child health issues and has conducted research on family planning and anemia among pregnant women. Dr. Ghada is also the Chair of the UNRWA Gaza Women’s Committee (UGWC) which is a forum in which UNRWA female staff members can come together to discuss their concerns and suggestions, as a way to further their position and promotion within the Agency through a framework that fosters gender equality. The Committee also facilitates targeted skills-building activities of female employees such as ICT and English language training as a way to ensure capacity is built among UNWRA’s 5,000 female employees. Dr. Ghada is married with three children.

Siham Abu-Nasr (33) – Assistant Operations Support Officer – UNRWA: Siham is a graduate of English Language and Literature from Al-Azhar University in Gaza. She is married and has two young boys. She has extensive experience from working in the humanitarian sector in Gaza having been particularly involved in the development and improvement of UNRWA’s educational and health programs. Before joining UNRWA she worked in the women’s NGO sector coordinating different empowerment projects for women. In addition to living in Gaza, Siham has also lived in Syria, Lebanon and Algeria. She brings with her a thorough understanding of the situation in Gaza and through her varied work experience she is particularly aware of the issues facing women across different areas such as health, education, employment and politics.

Saher Salem (24) – Communications Officer UNRWA: Saher is a graduate of Al-Azhar University in English Language and Literature. She has worked in UNRWA since 2008, first as an Assistant to the UNRWA Gaza Women’s Committee and now as a Communications Officer for UNRWA’s Executive Office. Believing in gender equality she continues to be an active member in the Women’s Committee and recently she represented UNRWA in the Young Women Forum, organised by UNIFEM, as part of the International Youth Conference 2010. She has solid understanding of the issues facing youth in Gaza having volunteered at youth NGOs in Gaza promoting human rights and calling for participation of youth in community-building. She wrote articles for ‘The Youth Times’ paper published in Gaza, West Bank and Jerusalem, tackling various topics that constitute major problems for Palestinian youth.

Rebecca Dibb (31) – Operations Support Officer – Gender / UNRWA: Rebecca Dibb is from Norway and the UK and has worked extensively on gender issues in the Middle East and in Europe. She is a graduate of Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies (Durham University - UK) and holds an MA in Human Rights Studies (London School of Economics - UK) with a specialization in women’s rights. Prior to joining UNRWA in 2009, she worked in Egypt, Lebanon and in the UK on issues relating to trafficking, sexual and gender-based violence awareness-raising among refugees in Cairo, leadership programs for young women in marginalized areas in Egypt and gender-related issues to public health. For UNRWA she manages the portfolio of gender projects and supports staff in delivering and implementing a wide-range of different gender projects and supports the overall implementation of UNRWA’s gender mainstreaming strategy to ensure the Agency’s services are delivered in a gender-sensitive manner.
